Stennis Space Center, MS —

Stennis Space Center once again proves itself as an attractive asset to area companies. DQSI Corporation (DQSI), of Covington, La., is the newest tenant of the Business Incubator managed by the Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MsET) at Stennis.

Formerly DataQuest Software Services, Inc., DQSI is an Information Technology (IT)-based consulting company that provides custom programming, data conversion, and systems integration services for government and several Louisiana companies. Its presence in Mississippi will allow the company to provide a wide range of unique services for GIS Infoimaging, document management, and continuity of operations (COOP).

Dr. Shelly Stubbs, President & CEO for DQSI, said that the Business Incubator at Stennis was an attractive option for DQSI for several of reasons. The most obvious were that the wide variety of State and Federal activities provides an opportunity for DQSI to identify niche markets for its services, and to aid in the development of technical expertise and skill sets for the company.

“MsET has long arms in the State of Mississippi,” Stubbs said. “If we just want to research an area, MsET can provide information, or it can help us get in direct contact with a source.”

Stubbs also said being a part of the environment of Stennis Space Center will help DQSI develop company strategies for breaking into new markets, “We are interested in working with several of the companies at Stennis. We believe that MsET can provide us with lessons learned for different areas,” she said.

DQSI has been a tenant of the MsET Business Incubator since April. However, the company has not yet been able to take full advantage of its services due to the heavy workload that Hurricane Katrina has brought. DQSI has been actively engaged in hurricane restoration and coastal recovery activities for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA, especially in the New Orleans area. While DQSI has the same commitment to excellence in its heavy construction work, the company intends to continue the IT focus it began when Stubbs founded the company in 1998. The company is already 8(a) certified as a Woman-owned Small Disadvantaged Business by the Small Business Administration. DQSI’s relationship to the MsET Business Incubator will only enhance that effort.

“Mississippi has great technological opportunities,” Stubbs said. “Our second-year goal is to really get into Stennis Space Center and Mississippi and grow our company in that area.” DQSI already provides a full range of software development, system integration and system life cycle services. The company intends to expand its services in document management, scanning and GIS applications.

“We are pleased to have DQSI associated with the Business Incubator,” said Charlie Beasley, Vice President of MsET. “The company brings a lot to the table in its quality services and professionalism. We look forward to working with them.”
